Get To Know Why Tire Tread Matters

You must be thinking, what is tire tread? The part of the tire that is in direct contact with the road surface is called the tire Tread. This part is indeed very important because no matter how your road is it is your tires that provide you comfort and safety. So basically it makes your driving experience worth it. You must have seen it closely and you must have observed a pattern on it that is called the Tread Pattern.

Tread has various components if we go in detail such as tread blocks, sipes, ribs, cross slots, and grooves. These elements of tire touch the road and can be considered some basic information when we talk about tire tread. So that when your car is at a speed of 150 km/h road you don’t get to feel inside your car. You can easily find a tire tread checkup center in Nagpur to ensure your tires are in perfect shape!

  1. Tread Block

The next time you go on a drive just see that on your tire there are large pieces of rubber coming outwards from the tire’s surface. Tread blocks are the real soldiers fighting with the road and everything that comes in its way. Without tread blocks you just cannot imagine traction/friction, they may seem a small part but their role is crucial. When the car stops or brakes are applied they offer a “bite effect” and help to maintain a grip with the road.

  2. Sipes
Moving more deeper between the tread blocks and edges of tread pattern you can see small and narrow grooves named sipes, tread design is complex for a reason. During rainy days when there is water logging everywhere specifically in India, these sipes help in displacing water underneath the tire which makes your drive comfortable on wet surfaces and keeps your vehicle stable.

  3. Grooves

The tread pattern has a continuous channel around it named grooves, these grooves have 2 roles to play in tire first being it helps in bending/flexing and moving of the tire tread on the road, this in turn gives your tire a firm grip while driving. Also, these grooves wipe off the water when the road is wet. For this reason, the car in cities with heavy rainfall always has more groove density and high sipe.

Now let’s find the role of tread pattern during monsoon

There are many places in the world where the sun is barely seen and it is mostly snowing or raining. For people living in such places tread depth matters way too much, more deeper your tread the more water it’ll be able to displace.

When tire tread depth is low, the vehicle basically moves on the water which is known as hydroplaning. So your tire loses all contact with the road and is riding above water and there is no traction meaning your car can slide!

There are few instruments like tire tread depth gauge which measure the depth of the top of the tread rubber to the bottoms’ deepest grooves, by measuring the depth you are aware and alert!

Conclusion

In a car, everything is connected and dependent on different parts. When we apply brakes it’s the tires that make that happen. Your tire condition decides to move and stop at a particular time while you are driving. To be on the safer side always make sure that you take good care of all the parts of your car from time to time by getting good service, especially your tires as they are the only parts in contact with the road.

Drive safe!!
